The memory and remembrance of the Holocaust in Czech Republic and other Eastern Countries was deeply influenced by 40 years of communist rule and is now institutionalized in established commemorations and memorials. At this point it is time to reflect on the current remembrance culture and its importance in the Czech Republic.
How do the Commemoration and “commemoralization” look like 80 years after the end of the Second World and of communist rule? How do we connect the official commemoration to the living memory of our communities and each one of us? How do memorials shape our view and perception of history and how is our view of history shaping the memorials?
